Funding process and reporting

The application process and reporting requirements are different for each fund.

Business Improvement District Grant Fund

The Business Improvement District grant fund provides seed funding to establish a Business Improvement District (BID) under the Council's BID Policy.

Canterbury waste minimisation project grants

Apply for a grant to fund a waste minimisation project in the Canterbury region.

Christchurch Biodiversity Fund

Providing support to custodians of biodiversity through a contestable fund of up to $200,000 per annum.

Christchurch Creative Communities Scheme

Open now and closes on 24 August 2021.
The Creative Communities Scheme supports local communities in creating and presenting diverse opportunities in arts activities.

Community Activation Fund

This fund provides support for community initiatives that improve community safety, participation, inclusion, and connection between communities affected in any way by the Christchurch terror attacks.

Community Board Small Funds

Some Community Boards offer grants to assist groups in their local area to undertake small community projects..

Community Organisation Loan Scheme

The Community Organisations Loan Scheme is designed to help organisations to develop or improve new or existing facilities and other major projects.

Computers to the community scheme

We have some personal computers and a limited number of laptops available free of charge to not-for-profit community groups.

Discretionary Response Fund

To assist community groups where their project funding request falls outside other Council funding criteria and/or closing dates.

Enliven Places Projects Fund

Transform Christchurch’s vacant spaces into vibrant and enlivened places with creative and temporary projects for public good.

Events and festivals funding

To provide sponsorship to develop a citywide calendar of events that enhance Christchurch as a place to live and visit and to strengthen the distinctive lifestyle, qualities and identity of Christchurch.

Mayor's Welfare Fund

The Mayor's Welfare Fund was established in 1897 as the 'Mayor's Coal and Blanket Fund'. The Fund provides assistance to families and individuals in our community who are in extreme financial distress.

Red Zones Transitional Use Fund

Providing support to projects and events which help create activity and vibrancy in the red zone areas, ahead of longer-term regeneration.

Small Sports Events Fund

The purpose of this fund is to provide funding opportunities to National and South Island sporting events.

Strengthening Communities Fund

The 2021/2022 Strengthening Communities Fund will open for applications on Monday 8 March and close at midnight Monday 12 April 2021.

Sustainability Fund

To encourage community, school, social enterprise or business projects that help meet our climate change objectives and targets.

Youth Development Fund

Each year the Council's community boards set aside an amount of money to fund young people in their local community.
